Macleod: The Execution Channel

macleod_exec.jpg

Glad to read Macleod back in politics. He seems to be at his best in describing both the micro and macro of political idealism, aspirations, power struggles, etc. This gives needed depth also to the characters that are not always as full-blooded as one would like. The counter-factual speculations on 9/11 and events after it in the middle of the book are not only interesting but also instructive. And there is the dive into blogospheres & other contemporary mediascapes. This is something that Macleod does better than any other sf writer I know, including Banks.

But…

Then there is the ending of the book. Very frustrating, disappointing. I literally dropped the book. Almost anything would have been better. Why, of why, this deus ex machina?
