Ever since reading Rupert Sheldrake’s “Seven Experiments that Could Change the Wolrd” I’ve been intrigued by the idea of the mutability of “fundamental” natural laws and constants. The speed of light, c, is a case in point. It is very hard to try to investigate the actual speed of light, since all measurement in one way or another presupposes a lot of things about time, lenght distance and so on, so that ultimately c is involved in the measurement process itself. Shaldrake has a good discussion of this problem. However, some measurements are being made, with equivocal results.
